この作品は、私が2014年から2019年にかけて撮影したスナップ写真群の中に「必然的な繋がり」を感じ、ブックとして構成したものである。撮影した時期は、ちょうど私が20代から30代へ移り変わる節目にあたり、時代は東日本大震災後の平成末期であった。自分の無力さに対する絶望感や焦燥感、先行きの見えない不安。そういった黒々としたものに心が覆われている状態が続いていた。作品を制作していくうちに、感情――平静を装い耐え続けることにより無意識の世界に押し込められた感情が、刻々と予測不能に変化するさまに強い興味を持つようになった。悲しみ、憎しみ、孤独、夢想、再生、爆発、歓喜、滅亡、超越……。のたうち回る感情の振れ幅、多様性こそ、私たち生き物に宿った野生の力なのかもしれないと思う。写真を荒い紙にプリントし、くしゃくしゃに握りつぶしたあと再度伸ばすというプロセスを設けた。それによって、いびつな陰影や手触りをブックに加え、傷つきボロボロになりながらも生き延びる野生生物のような凄みを与えようとした。

Finding an inevitable connection in a group of snapshots taken between 2014 and 2019, I made them into a handmade book. The period was just around the turning point from my 20s to 30s as well as the end of Heisei after the Great East Japan Earthquake. Despair, frustration, anxiety, powerlessness… Such somberness had been covering my mind. In the process of producing the work, I was interested in the unpredictable change of emotions that were pushed into an unconscious world by staying silent and withstanding. Sadness, hatred, loneliness, dreams, regeneration, explosions, delights, destruction, transcendence… The range of such writhing emotions may be the wild power that dwells in us, living creatures, I think. I added a process of printing photos on rough paper, crushing them, and then restretching them. This gave the work a fragile shadow and touch, which connotes the power of wild life surviving pain and suffering.
